Solstis is a compact tile-placement puzzle designed by Bruno Cathala, where shifting seasons reshape the board beneath your fingertips. Over 15 minutes, you'll manipulate modular pieces to solve spatial challenges, with each tile acting as both terrain and obstacle. The game's mechanics reward careful planning and pattern recognition, making it accessible to players aged 8 and up while offering enough depth to satisfy experienced puzzlers.
The dual-mode structure supports both solo play and head-to-head competition for two players. In solo mode, you're chasing optimal solutions and personal bests; with a partner, the same spatial constraints become a race for efficiency. Cathala's design ensures that the core challenge — reading the board state and anticipating how tiles interlock — remains consistent across both modes.
Published in 2024 with art by Manu Gorobeï, Solstis lives in the sweet spot between filler and brain-burner. Its low complexity rating (around 1.27) and quick playtime make it an ideal warm-up or cooldown game, yet the tile-manipulation system has enough permutations to keep each puzzle fresh. The seasonal theme ties the visual presentation to the mechanical shifts without overwhelming the clarity of play.
